Living a fabulous life isn't easy, but I do it flawlessly! Of course I am not going to toot my own horn (beep-beep!), but this is not another blog from yet another pretentious person who thinks they are more fabulous than reality. Instead, I detail the makings of a fabulous life no matter where you are in life. It does not take a lot of money to live a fabulous life, just a lot of creativity. Honestly, being fabulous is a state of mind and I plan to help get you there, fabulously of course!!!

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: Pregnant Jessica Simpson Covers Elle Nude

One writer asked if this pose is getting old and I would have to say yes. For some reason when I look at this cover, I have flashbacks of Demi Moore and countless other women who have dropped trou to show of their fabulous baby bump. Maybe the reason is because this pose has been exacted one too many times by now. I get that it is supposed to be liberating and make pregnant women feel good about their pregnant bodies. In a fabulous world where everyone is photoshoped, that may work, but not in the real world. Pregnancy changes a woman’s body drastically and most of them do not have someone who is able to airbrush away their stretch marks and to conceal their insecurities. So if they are going to celebrate the gift of pregnancy, they should do it without photoshop, do it without any makeup (the face included), and show how fabulous it really is to be pregnant. For this reason, I have to say Jessica Simpson looks good, but this pose has become very Faux Fabulous. What do my FABs think and make sure you vote in the poll to the right?

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: Oscars Edition 2012

I am not going to lie, it was hard to decide who was Fabulous and who was Faux Fabulous at tonight’s Oscars. The ladies who I selected for my Fabulous list really soared above the rest and stuck out to me. The ladies whom I picked as Faux Fabulous were not cited for too many fashion violations, but there were some small details which caused them to be featured on my Faux Fabulous list. Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: Chanel Fur Muff Purse

A few weeks after giving birth to Blue Ivy, Beyonce was spotted out wearing this black fur Chanel muff purse. The purse, I mean muff, I mean muff purse (I am so confused) reportedly retails for somewhere around $4,500. It holds your most intimate belongings while keeping your hands warm all at the same time, so it is well worth the price to me. Who said fashion isn’t functional? In addition, I love fur. A designer could come out with a fur covered chapstick case and I would buy it. Of course I am talking about faux fur because I live in the D.C. area and those PETA extremists have been known to throw paint on people. I just wanted to put that out there before the local chapter adds me to their “throw paint on” list. Now back to the topic at hand. I think this bag is fabulous, and for the most part, Beyonce can do no wrong in my eyes. What do my FABs think and make sure you vote in the poll to the right?

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: Grammy Edition 2012

Honestly, there was not much to choose in regards to fashion from this year’s Grammy awards. A lot of the attendees played it safe, but some stood out from the rest in a positive way, while others stood out from the rest in a not so positive way. See all the ladies who made my Fabulous or Faux Fabulous Grammy Edition list after the jump.

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: J. Lo's White Fur and White Pants

Last week Jennifer Lopez was spotted out in NYC wearing a white fur and white pants. In regards to women’s furs, I usually like them to be a little bit more fitted to show off their figure and recommend adding a belt to give it more of a shape. When it comes to stark white in the winter, I still think it is Faux Fabulous. My recommendation is an off white or a winter white, but you should never wear stark white in the winter which is Rule No. 5 in the “All Things Fabulous” rulebook. I will have to give this look a Faux Fabulous because as the saying goes, “two wrongs don’t make a right.” What do my FABs think and make sure you vote in the poll to the right?

The Esteem of a Fabulous Person

When I met one of my best friends years ago, he thought I had low self-esteem because I always wore designer clothes and looked pretty fabulous. He was a little off the mark and he eventually told me his initial judgment of me was incorrect.

Let me just tell you, fashion is my middle name and fabulous is my game (I know, this is a little corny, but I like it). I always make sure I look good because I am a brand; I represent Daryl J. at all times. I always knew this, even at a young age. So even though the designer clothes are not representative of my insecurities, it does not mean I possess the highest self-esteem.

Honestly, I am just like anyone else. I question if what I write will be read, if the clothes I put on will make a statement or just make me look a fool, and how good I look to others. These are all things that run through my mind from time to time and I am sure I am not the only one.

I know my strengths and play off of them. By no means do I think I am a “10,” but I know I have a “10” personality and am fabulous. In this world where there is always someone better than you at something, you must focus on your strengths and let those strengths serve as the foundation of who you are in life.

I learned a long time ago from Reverend Watley at my church that horses do not have good peripheral vision, so while racing, they wear blinders so they are able to focus on what is ahead of them instead of the distractions surrounding them.

So in the race of life, I challenge everyone to put on your blinders to block out that which distracts you from being fabulous and impedes the process of discovering who you are as a person. There will be distractions along the way, but they will only distract you if you pay more attention to the distraction than the goal ahead.

Because to be fabulous, you have to know what makes you fabulous!

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: The Louis Vuitton Condom

If someone ever pulled out a $68 Louis Vuitton condom in the heat of the moment, I am going to be upset because that is money that could go towards sponsoring a new Louis Vuitton bag for my collection. On a side note, I have never had a sponsor, but if a man were to decide he wants to willingly sponsor me without any prompting, I have never been one to turn down a charitable donation. Now back to the topic at hand. All I have to say is this: you get no FAB points from me with this one. In my book, I give this one a Faux Fabulous. What do my FABs think, is this Fabulous or Faux Fabulous? As always, vote in the poll and let me know your opinions below in the comments.

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: G-String Wedding Gown

Fashion shows are all about creating buzz around your line, but German bridal designer Kaviar Gauche took it to the next level this season. I would show you all the back of this creation, but my blog is PG-13 and the rearview is NSFW. In my mind, the only way this is acceptable is if you are a stripper getting married in Las Vegas. The average woman already goes through enough turmoil trying to loose weight to fit their wedding gown or get that beach ready body before summer, so this is combining two epidemics into one to create the ultimate bridezilla (grooms take cover!). I have to give this one a Faux Fabulous in my book. What do my FAB ones think, is this Fabulous or Faux Fabulous? As always, vote in the poll and let me know your opinions below in the comments.

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: Golden Globes Edition

When it comes to awards shows, celebrities always try to make a statement on the red carpet. Sometimes the statement they try to make with their fashions is extremely bold, too muted, or just plain faux fabulous. So here are my Fabulous or Faux Fabulous picks for the 2012 Golden Globes which aired last night. Let me know what you think by commenting below.

Fabulous:

Charlize Theron in Dior Couture. She was definitely the best dressed of the evening. When I saw her in this gown, it simply took my breath away and made me pull out a brown paper bag because I started hyperventilating.

Angelina Jolie in Versace. I love the pop of color on the collar and then the repetition with her red clutch and lipstick. The day Angelina Jolie looks faux fabulous, it will be the end of the world.

Mary J. Blige in Michael Kors. Everything about this dress is perfect and it made her look so glamorous. I wonder which shoe she is wearing under there?

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang. This strapless gown with the fishtail is fabulous in my book. It manages to show off her figure in a sophisticated manner.

Elle MacPherson in Zac Posen. She took my breath away with this nude colored gown and was one of the best wearing this color on the red carpet.

Evan Rachel Wood in a sequined and leather gown by Gucci. She was channeling Mystique from X-Men with this dress because she is giving part fish and part peacock, but it works for me and instantly caught my eye.

Emma Stone in Lanvin. She looks so good, I almost did not know it was her. The color of the gown and her plunging neck line make this look a hit.

Mila Kunis in Dior. It is true when they say you can never go wrong with a little black dress and she proves this statement to be true.

Kate Beckinsale in Roberto Cavalli. I just love this gown, but there is something about the top of it I am unable to get over. It helps define her shoulders and draws attention to her effervescent face.

Viola Davis in Pucci. I love the gown and she looks immaculate, but look at her face, it is just flawless and gives me true starlet! She is truly shinning.

Lea Michelle is stunning in this gown. It was by far the sexiest on the red carpet and I am sure it turned a lot of heads.

Kate Winslet in Jenny Packham. What is there to say about her except she always looks classic and sophisticated.

Faux Fabulous:

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhuillier. She said her two year old daughter picked this gown out. In the future, she should leave picking out gowns to a stylist with a little more experience than two years.

Amanda Peet in Marc Jacobs. This dress so reminded me of the doilies on the coffee table at my grandmother’s house. I hope she made it through the night without someone mistaking her dress as a coaster.

Piper Perabo. I wonder if she is smuggling someone into the show under her dress? I know what it is, this is the 2012 interpretation of the Strange commercial from the movie “Boomerang” with Grace Jones and she is about to reveal a new fragrance (click here to view what I am referencing). Okay, maybe not, but it definitely looks like it a little bit.

Heidi Klum makes the faux fabulous list because this basic dress was way to basic for me. She must have thought she was going to a PTA meeting instead of the Golden Globes.

Jodie Foster in this dress is an epic fail, nothing more to say.

Jessica Biel in Valentino. Something must have happened to her dress while she was on her way to the show, so she stopped by her grandmother’s dress to borrow this. This is the explaination I am able to give.

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta. There is something about this dress I am unable to put my finger on…wait, it is one of those horrid dresses brides make their bridesmaids wear. Maybe this is her way of trying to get casted for Bridemaids 2.

Jessica Alba in Gucci. I do not hate this gown, but it just does not do anything special for me.

Reese Whitherspoon in Zac Posen. This gave me a prom-queen-down-on-the-farm feel for some reason. I love Reese, but she missed the mark with this dress, especially since she was just not her usual polished self.

Michelle Williams in a textured leopard like print dress by Jason Wu. Now I know Jason Wu designs some outlandish clothes and I usually love them, but this just makes me want to call animal control because I think a pet from the zoo broke out somehow.

Zooey Deschanel in Prada. I love Prada, but this gown just gives me swap thing. Someone please send this photo to MythBusters and let them know there has been a sighting ASAP!

Ariel Winter in Dolce & Gabbana. The color and shape of this dress is just wrong for me. I think she may have borrowed this from one of those up-and-coming actresses who does reenactments at old historic mansions. I hope she does not get the person she borrowed it from in trouble if she gets a stain on it.

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: Jeggings

One of my friends recently asked me for my opinion of Jeggings (jeans + leggings = jeggings) on Twitter. I love her dearly, so it took me a second to formulate my answer because she had already purchased a pair. Jeggings fall in the same category to me as Uggs. Do not get me wrong, I own a pair of Uggs myself, but I would not call them fabulous. I consider trends like these to be comfortable fashions because they are trends started by those who wish to make being fashionable more comfortable. Unfortunately, fashion is not about comfort. Here is my rationale: if you would not wear these items to a fashion show, then they may not be that fabulous. I would not say throw out these items if you have them in your closet, but they should only be worn when running to the grocery store, when out shopping, etc. Get my drift? Because Jeggings are more of a comfort item than a fashion item, I have to stamp them faux fabulous. All my FAB ones out there let me know what you think below and be sure to vote in the poll as well.

Fabulous or Faux Fabulous: Christian Louboutin "Puck" Shoe?

Christian Louboutin is known for his eye catching shoes and every fabulous person wishes to have at least one pair of red bottoms in their closet. So for his Fall/Winter 2011 collection, he designed the "Puck" shoe covered in pony hair. Of course I like them because I have a pair of black & white zebra print pony hair shoes myself (don’t hate me PETA) and would definitely purchase these if they were available for men (meaning without the heel). I give this one a fabulous in my book. What do all my FAB ones think? Let me know by leaving a comment and be sure to vote in the poll at the bottom of the page.
